It's now been over a decade since Aliens versus Predator was released, a ground-breaking first person shooter bringing together the worlds of both the Alien and Predator films. The game featured the option to play as the marines, the Aliens or the Predators - opening up some fantastic possibilities both in single player and multiplayer. Since 1999 there have been several additions to the Aliens versus Predator franchise; a sequel from a different developer, a real time strategy, two films and several other releases.
Now Rebellion, the development team of the 1999 classic, are soon to release Aliens vs. Predator; a revitalised FPS set in the same world as the original game. This game will be drawing its source material from the original, separate, Aliens and Predator films rather than the more recent combined movies so you can expect the feel of Aliens vs. Predator to be in line with this.

To think that Aliens vs. Predator will be a simple graphical modernisation of the 1999 original would be unfair - Rebellion claim to have made a lot of developments in their new game. Some things, however, do not change and this new instalment features many of the key elements that are tried and tested in the series.
Like the original, Aliens vs. Predator will contain three campaigns- one for Aliens, one for Predators and one for human marines. Marines wield the widest selection of weaponry, a veritable arsenal of high explosives and armour piercing rounds. In exchange for this the marines lack physical prowess against the other species; the Aliens can easily outmanoeuvre their victims and the Predators have a combination of stealth and strong melee attacks.

The campaigns will all connect to one overarching narrative while also maintaining independent plots and game play. The marine campaign is set to be the most familiar to first person shooter fans; armed with the iconic pulse rifle, smart gun and motion tracker, players will likely feel well prepared. That is until you see what you're up against.
